Another U.S. delegation visits Taiwan amid China’s warning

A U.S. congressional delegation is to arrive in Taiwan late Thursday on the third such visit this month amid rising regional tensions, the state-run Central News Agency (CNA) reported.
Taiwan’s foreign ministry said “a group of important political figures’’ is arriving at Taipei’s Songshan Airport late Thursday.
President Tsai Ing-wen on Friday would receive the U.S. delegation, CNA said.
The arrival of the delegation comes after recent visits by high-ranking Democrats Nancy Pelosi on August 2, and Ed Markey on August 14, which drew ire from Beijing.
The Chinese military held large-scale manoeuvres around Taiwan earlier this month in response to U.S. House Speaker Pelosi’s visit to the island.
Taiwan has had an independent government since 1949, but China considers the democratic island part of its territory and opposes any form of official contact between Taiwan and other countries.
