Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar says that any attempt by President Bola Tinubu’s government, Independent National Electoral Commission and judiciary in the affairs of the African Democratic Congress would be resisted.

Mr Abubakar spoke on Wednesday after being declared winner of the ADC presidential primary election, polling 1,846,370 votes.

“The government and INEC continue to undermine it (ADC), even trying to deregister it. Let me warn again that any further attempt to interfere in the affairs of the party by the presidency, INEC and judiciary will be fiercely resisted,” said Mr Abubakar.

Mr Abubakar congratulated other aspirants for participating in the primary to represent the party in the 2027 presidential election, noting that they were driven by patriotism and commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians.

“I know that like me you are deeply concerned about the rapid descent of our country into economic disaster, catastrophic insecurity, extreme nepotism, political intolerance and the drive towards a one-party state by the current government and its party.

“I thank you for your participation in this process which is healthy for our party’s internal democracy and for democracy in our country. I must state that at this juncture this is not the time to celebrate,” Mr Abubakar said.

Mr Abubakar’s opponents, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen and ex-Governor Rotimi Amaechi had alleged irregularities in the electoral process of the primary election held across the country.
