The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has expressed confidence in securing victory in the forthcoming Enugu North senatorial district bye-election, citing the developmental strides recorded under Governor Peter Mbah’s administration.

The state Chairman of the APC, Martin Chukwunweike, disclosed this on Wednesday in Enugu.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had scheduled the bye-election for June 20 following the death of Senator Okey Ezea, who represented Enugu North senatorial fistrict in the Senate.

The electoral umpire cleared seven candidates from different political parties to participate in the poll.

According to INEC’s final notice, the candidates cleared to participate in the bye-election are Chika Idoko Emmanuel (ADC), Ikeje Israel Asogwa (APC), Kingsley Chukwuebuka Aneke of Boot Party (BP), Ejike Simon Eze (Labour Party (LP)), and Elias Okwudili Ossai (Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)).

Others are Nestor Chika Ezeme (Peoples Democratic Party, PDP) and Charles Ugochukwu Ugwuanyi (Peoples Redemption Party, PRP).

Speaking on the party’s prospects, Mr Chukwunweike said the APC was optimistic of emerging victorious at the polls.

“That is my confidence. There will be an election, a winner will be declared, and I strongly believe it will be the APC candidate,” he said.

He urged residents of the district and the state at large to continue supporting Mr Mbah and the APC, noting that the administration’s achievements had positively impacted the people.

“We have faith in our governor, Mr Peter Mbah. We urge the people to continue to support and vote for the APC so that the gains already experienced will be consolidated and expanded, rather than diminished through wrong choices,” he said.

On the participation of other political parties in the contest, the APC chairman said all parties were adequately preparing for the election.

“They were preparing themselves while we are preparing ourselves. Everyone knows what is happening, and the people can see the progress being made,” Mr Chukwunweike stated.

He expressed confidence that voters would make informed decisions during the by-election and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to sustaining development in the state.
