Nentawe Yilwatda, the Plateau governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has promised to involve traditional rulers in governance if elected governor.

This is contained in a statement by Shittu Bamayi, the spokesperson for the APC campaign council in Plateau.

According to the statement, Mr Yilwatda said this during a visit to Qua’an Pan Traditional Council in Ba’ap, Qua’an Pan council area.

The governorship candidate stated that traditional rulers would participate fully in governance, particularly in peace-building and security, pledging to initiate a bill for the amendment of the Peace Building Agency and the state security outfit, Operation Rainbow, to accommodate traditional rulers on their boards.

“I have identified some key areas in the constitution to be amended for the involvement of the traditional institution in governance,” stated Mr Yilwatda. “As a revered, respected and rallying point for both the government and the governed, there is a need to clearly spell out the constitutional role of the traditional rulers in the constitution.”

The APC flag bearer also explained that he would work with members of the National Assembly “from my state to push for the amendment of the constitution to involve traditional rulers in governance.”

“Some existential challenges confronting the state such as insecurity, ethnic disharmony and perennial poverty were the fundamental problems the state was grappling with,” Mr Yilwatda added.
