The Appeal Court has given the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) the green light to conduct its elective congress scheduled for tomorrow in Benin, Edo State.

With less than 24 hours to go, multiple sources reported on Thursday that the Appeal Court ruled that the election can now go-ahead.

The NFF had appealed a September 15 Federal High Court ruling that sought to stop the election from taking place tomorrow on September 30, 2022.

Peoples Gazette had earlier reported that Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court ordered NFF and the Ministry of Sports to postpone the election indefinitely, until the outcome of suits brought against the NFF was determined.

The federal government had on Wednesday directed football stakeholders in the country and other concerned parties to abide by the Federal High Court ruling not to conduct the federation’s executive committee elections.

The initial suits were brought against the NFF, Amaju Pinnick, and the Minister of Sports and Youth Development by Harrison Jalla, Victor Baribote, Austin Popo, and the registered trustees of the National Association of Nigeria Footballers (NANF).

The plaintiffs want an amendment to the 2010 NFF statutes. They seek equal representation for all the five statutory bodies that make up the NFF as it relates to voting rights and representation on the NFF Board.
