The chief of army staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, has charged troops of 401 Special Forces Brigade Makurdi, Benue, to remain disciplined and professional while discharging their constitutional responsibilities.

Mr Lagbaja said this during an operational visit to Benue on Thursday as part of his working tour of Nigerian Army formations and units across the country, according to a statement by army spokesman Onyema Nwachukwu.

The duty tour would enable the army chief to assess the combat readiness of the troops to reinvigorate ongoing operations to mitigate security challenges in the country effectively.

While addressing the troops, Mr Lagbaja commended them for their sacrifices and service to the nation.

He urged them to continue to give their best to maintain the peace and stability of the nation.

The army chief used the visit to inaugurate a 7.5-kilometre road constructed by the Nigerian Army Engineers in the Joe Akahan Military Cantonment to improve the barracks infrastructure.

He urged the barracks community to cherish and maintain the road, adding that the army would strive to provide more infrastructure and social amenities to bring succour to soldiers and their families.
