The 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, located near Jos at Rukuba, has organised an Inter-Brigade Combat Competition to enhance the proficiency of its personnel.

Maj.-Gen. Folunsho Oyinlola, the general officer commanding of the Division, declared the competition open on Monday in Jos.

Speaking, Folunsho, who doubles as the Commander of Operation Safe Haven, said that the competition was part of the training, aimed at equipping the personnel with the necessary competencies.

He maintained that the exercise would further enhance the capacity of its personnel toward tackling the emerging security challenges in Plateau and beyond.

“This competition is part of training, which is the cardinal pillar of this division. It is organised to further equip our officers to enhance their competencies and effectiveness in the discharge of their constitutional roles.

“This exercise aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s philosophy of a well-equipped and motivated combat-ready force. This competition will particularly enhance the proficiencies of young and middle-level commanders operating within global best practices,” he said.

Mr Oyinlola thanked army chief Olufemi Oluyede for prioritising the training and retraining of army personnel across all formations.

He also promised to prioritise the welfare of personnel in the Division and their families to ensure optimal performance.

Earlier, Big.-Gen. Adiyu Aminu, the division’s garrison commander, said that the exercise was timely. Mr Aminu added that the competition would not only enhance proficiency but also professionalism and expertise among personnel.

He called on the participants to exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship during the competition.

The formations participating in the competition are 6 Brigade, Jalingo, 23 Brigade, Yola, and 33 Artillery Brigade, Bauchi. Others include 3 Division Garrison, Jos, and 43 Engineers Brigade, Jos.
