Asaba 2025: Team Ekiti picks gold medal in tennis mixed double

The duo of Seyi Ogunsakin and Goodnews Aina delivered a stellar performance in the mixed doubles final.

Team Ekiti on Friday added to its medal tally in table tennis at the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State by securing gold in the mixed doubles category.

The duo of Seyi Ogunsakin and Goodnews Aina delivered a stellar performance in the mixed doubles final.

The duo defeated their counterparts from Lagos State with a thrilling encounter at the finals as the lads showed their superiority during the matches in Asaba.

In another encounter, Goodnews Aina and Gloria Samuel added to the Ekiti medals by winning silver in the girls doubles while Ogunsakin also secured silver in the boys’ singles.

Similarly, Aina won bronze in the girls singles in Tennis.

Reacting, the State Head Coach of Tennis, Wumi Ogunsakin commended the boys and girls for displaying good skills and composure during the games.

Mr Ogunsakin said their victory over their counterparts from other states to reach the point of clinching the gold medal was impressive.

He said, “I am delighted with the victory of my young tennis players; they have indeed improved a lot in their skills of playing. I have no doubt that they are going to win more medals in subsequent editions of the National Youth Games.’’

In her remarks, the Technical Advisor to the Governor on Sports Development, Olusola Osetoba, expressed delight at the success recorded by the tennis players

She commended the state tennis coach for his hard work to ensure the players were well equipped with adequate skills of playing to win medals in national competitions.

“I want to congratulate Team Ekiti, especially our Tennis players, who have won several medals for us. I believe this is just the beginning of their success, by God’s grace at the 10th edition of the National Youth Games, they will win gold medal in all categories,” she said.

Currently Team Ekiti has won three gold, four silver and six bronze medals with the hope for more before the games come to an end on September 6.
