Nigerian singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, says he would like to work with American rapper Kanye West.

“I have been saying this thing since; maybe God will do it. I would like to work with Kanye,” Asake said in a recent interview with Billboard News.

Asake said his criteria for collaborating with someone goes beyond just the music itself. He believes in building a genuine connection and feeling comfortable with the person.

“For me, I need to like the person before I can make music with you. I need to be comfortable with you. Not even because of the music alone,” he said.

“I’m not saying I can’t make music with other people, but I like real energy. If you like me beyond the music, it’s good. But I need to connect with your music; I need to like the person I want to work with first, so it won’t be a problem for me. There must be synergy,” he added.

Asake also discussed the global explosion of the Afrobeats genre, expressing his pride and joy in the genre’s growth.

“It is like you having a baby, and your baby is growing. You know, you feel good when you have something around you, and the thing is growing,” he said.

He added, “In a couple of years, it [afrobeats] will be bigger.”

The “Lonely at the Top” crooner recently received recognition at the 16th edition of the Headies.

He won two special highly coveted categories, namely “Next Rated” and “Album of the Year” for his project “Mr. Money with the Vibe.”
