At least 51 killed as truck crashes into market

At least 51 people were reportedly killed Friday in western Kenya after a huge truck apparently went off a major highway and crashed into other vehicles, pedestrians and traders.
The police on Friday initially counted 48 people dead as a result of the incident, while the number rose to 51 on Saturday, the Voice of America VOA reports.
The incident happened in an area infamous for automobile accidents in the Rift Valley.
According to the Kenyan Red Cross, 32 individuals were hospitalised and blood donations were requested.

Kenyan President William Ruto expressed his condolences on Twitter, writing, “The country mourns with the families who have lost loved ones in a horrific road accident in Londiani.”
Kipchumba Murkomen, the transportation minister, stated that the markets would be relocated away from the roadway to help prevent additional fatal incidents.
