At least five people have been confirmed killed in a bank shooting that occurred in Louisville, Kentucky.

This was disclosed by the police on Monday, following a shooting at a bank (Old National Bank) in the city’s downtown area.

Six others, including a policeman, were wounded.

They have been taken to hospitals.

Louisville Metro Police Department Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey said officers “encountered active gunshots still being fired inside the location at that time.”

“The shooter was confirmed to be dead on the scene,” Mr Humphrey explained. “We do not know exactly the circumstances of his death at this time.”

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear asked the public to “please pray for all of the families impacted and for the city of Louisville.”

Craig Greenberg, the city’s mayor, requested prayers for the “injured, fighting for their lives as a result of another act of gun violence” and commended the “brave and heroic” first responders for arriving at the scene on time.

Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, stated that he was “devastated” about the Louisville shooting.

According to the police, a former bank employee might have been the gunman involved in the shootings.
