At least two trapped in Lagos collapsed building: LASEMA

Eight victims have been rescued and received medical treatment, while two others remain trapped in the rubble of a four-storey building that collapsed on Lagos Island on Thursday.
The permanent secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
Mr Oke-Osanyintolu said LASEMA rescued eight people from a collapsed building on Thursday at 15 Iga Idunganran Street, Lagos Island.
He said the agency responded to distress calls in the early hours of the day and, on arrival at the scene, “discovered that a four-storey residential building had collapsed.”
According to the statement, a preliminary investigation at the scene of the incident revealed that the immediate cause was an ongoing renovation on the collapsed building, which LASBCA had previously marked for evacuation.
It said 10 people were trapped under the rubble, and eight were rescued and treated by the agency’s Pre-Hospital Care Unit before they were transferred to the Iga Idunganran Primary Health Care Centre.
Efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining two victims.
