Attacker of Nancy Pelosi’s husband convicted, faces life imprisonment
David DePape, attacker of Paul Pelosi, the husband of former United States House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, faces life imprisonment after he was convicted of attacking Mr Pelosi with a hammer last year.
On Thursday, Mr DePape, 43, was convicted of federal crimes after the brutal attack on Mr Pelosi at the couple’s San Francisco home on the morning of October 28, 2020, which left the 83-year-old father with a fractured skull.
The Democratic Congresswoman was in Washington at the time of the incident.
Mr DePape did not contest the evidence against him, which included police body camera video of the attack and Mr DePape’s own admissions.
He was found guilty of committing an assault on the immediate family member of a federal official and consequently faces a possible life imprisonment.
“Speaker Pelosi and her family are deeply grateful for the outpouring of prayers and warm wishes for Mr Pelosi from so many across the country during this difficult time,” a spokesman for Ms Pelosi said in a statement.
“The Pelosi family is very proud of their Pop, who demonstrated extraordinary composure and courage on the night of the attack a year ago and in the courtroom this week. Thankfully, Mr Pelosi continues to make progress in his recovery,” the statement added.
