The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Member States of the European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU) are set for the 3rd AU-EU ministerial meeting in Brussels, Belgium.

This is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Head of Communication of the African Union Commission (AUC), Wynne Musabayana.

She said the meeting would take stock of progress on the Joint Vision for 2030 for a renewed partnership adopted at the 6th EU-AU Summit in 2022.

According to her, the meeting paved the way for the 7th AU-EU Summit, which would take place in Africa in 2025, saying such would mark 25 years of the partnership between both parties.

She said, “The 3rd AU-EU Ministerial Meeting marks a critical moment to evaluate and reinvigorate the partnership between the two continents, which is aligned to both the AU’s Agenda 2063 development framework and the EU’s priorities. This ministerial meeting also offers a unique opportunity to move from high-level commitments to implementation, with Africa recently joining the G20 and recent occurrences in the global multilateral system.’’

She explained that the ministers during the meeting would discuss progress achieved over the past 25 years and their shared interests for the good of the people of both continents.

Also, they were expected to appreciate the strong relations between Europe and Africa.

The AU-EU partnership that is grounded in Agenda 2063 and the 2022 summit centred on a prosperous and sustainable agenda for Africa and Europe.

Others include renewed and enhanced cooperation on peace, security and governance; enhanced and reciprocal partnership for migration and mobility; as well as stronger commitment to multilateralism.

The event will be from May 19 to May 21, 2025, with meetings of the African Group of Ambassadors on May 19 and African and European senior officials meeting on May 20.

The aim was to consider the documents of the ministers, including the draft programme of the 3rd EU-AU ministerial meeting and the draft joint communiqué.
