Automation of vehicle registration advancing public service delivery: DRTS
The Directorate of Road Transport Services (DRTS) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration says its automation of vehicle registration is advancing public service delivery in FCT.
Its director, Abdullateef Bello, who stated this while interacting with journalists in Abuja on Sunday, added that the automation brought unprecedented convenience to the motoring public.
Mr Bello explained that the DRTS self-service portal, https://selfservice.fctevreg.com/, introduced in March 2023, allows vehicle owners to register, renew, and select their number plates from the comfort of their homes.
He said the goal was to ensure a seamless, automated, and transparent process, thereby setting a new standard for vehicle registration in the country.
According to him, the development eliminated the manual and cumbersome processes and the possibility of excess payments or corrupt practices.
Mr Bello said, “This transparency and efficiency are key benefits of the automated system, ensuring that users can navigate the registration process with ease and confidence.
“The self-service portal reduces bureaucratic bottlenecks and encourages seamless transactions through digital solutions.
“This is a demonstration of the directorate’s commitment to leveraging technology for improved service delivery and user experience.”
He urged vehicle owners to visit the platform for their vehicle registration, renewal, and selection of number plates efficiently and effectively.
Mr Bello further explained that the management of number plates was under the Central Motor Registry’s purview, not the director’s office.
He also said the Federal Road Safety Corps was producing the number plates, adding that the plant was currently producing below capacity.
According to him, this is responsible for the current shortage of number plates. He added that discussions are ongoing to increase production to meet growing demand.
Mr Bello appealed for the understanding and cooperation of vehicle owners and urged them to report any concern directly to his office.
