Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal of the game as Nottingham Forest secured their first Premier League win in 23 years by defeating West Ham United 1-0.

Forest had lost their opening game at home to Newcastle United in a very disappointing performance, and were facing a West Ham side hoping to secure their first points of the season after losing, expectedly, to Manchester City.

As the clock ticked down on the first half, Awoniyi latched on to a loose ball in the box and hit a paved shot into the bottom left corner for Forest’s first goal in the top flight for over two decades.

Awoniyi joined Nottingham Forest this summer from Union Berlin for around £17.5m.
