Residents in Funtua Zone of Katsina State have welcomed the recent deployment of more policemen and equipment to tackle banditry in the zone.

The state police command announced the deployment of more officers and armored personnel carriers to confront banditry in the zone comprising Funtua, Dandume and Sabuwa Local Government Areas (LGAs).

A cross-section of residents in the affected areas who spoke during an interview lauded the development and urged other security services to emulate the police to deal with security threats in the zone.

A resident of Tumburkai in Ɗandume LGA, Abubakar Musa, urged security agents to expand presence in the hinterland for more impacts.

“Our village is one of the biggest villages in Ɗandume local government, yet we live in fear spending nights guarding ourselves.

“In most cases, vigilance groups and other volunteers are the ones giving us cover whenever we are attacked by gunmen.”

“We need immediate security intervention to keep our village secure,” he said.

Another resident of Dandume, Yusuf Ibrahim, raised concern about the shortage of security agents, particularly soldiers and policemen to lead security operations against bandits.

“We heard about the increased security personnel, and we hope to see them in our villages soon,” he said.

A farmer from Sabuwa local government, Sagir Inuwa, decried lack of access to their farms.

He stated, “Many of us sleep dreaming about our farms. We hope the deployment of more security personnel in the zone will help improve security for us to access our farms.”

Another resident of Sabuwa, Garba Adamu, also welcomed the deployment of more security personnel and urged the people to give them the needed support for maximum results.

A trader from Ɗandaji in Funtua local government area, Bello Idris, lauded the renewed move with increased police personnel and urged other security agencies, particularly the military to also deploy additional personnel.

He expressed gratitude towards the response of tje police and other security authorities during the recent attacks in Ɗandaji and other communities in the area.

“The quick response from security authorities during the recent attacks were commendable.”

“We urged the government to deploy more special security personnel,” he said.

Another resident, Lawal Abbas, also lauded the development and urged for more commitment from stakeholders for more successes in containing banditry in Funtua zone.
