Gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked an Abuja suburb and reportedly kidnapped three residents while a pregnant woman sustained gunshot injury during the attack.

The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. Wednesday at Kwaita community in the Kwali Council Area of the FCT, Daily Trust reported.

The outlet cited a witness as saying that the assailants stormed the community and started shooting sporadically, invaded their victims’ residence and whisked them away at gunpoint.

However, the witness further disclosed that a stray bullet hit a pregnant woman during the attack.

“The entire community was thrown into panic because of the sporadic gunshot,” the witness said. “They wanted to take the woman along, but when they discovered that she sustained a bullet wound and she is pregnant, they spared her,” the witness said.

The pregnant woman who is battling with her life, is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Gwagwalada, the report noted.

The FCT command spokeswoman, Mariam Yusuf confirmed the incident to the Gazette Thursday evening by telephone.

“FCT Police rescued one kidnap victim in Kwaita village along Kwali axis after a fierce gun duel with suspected Kidnappers.”

“In the process of repelling them, a police officer sustained gunshot injuries meanwhile effort is being made to rescue the remaining two victims and apprehend the fleeing suspects. The rescued victim is currently responding to treatment,” Ms. Yusuf said.

The Kwali and Pegi axis of the FCT are some of the flash points where kidnapping activities occur repeatedly in a brazen fashion.

The Gazette last month had reported how bandits opened fire on residents living in the Pegi community while returning home from work.

Inhabitants If the communities have decried the outpouring attacks by brigands over the years.
