Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina has signed an executive order banning ‘Bacha’ and ‘Kauraye’ political thugs.

According to him, the executive order is to tackle Katsina security challenges already worsened by bandits.

Information commissioner Yahaya Sirika announced this in a statement on Friday in Katsina, saying that the order was in exercising the powers conferred on the governor by section 176(2) of the 1999 Constitution.

Mr Sirika added that the order, which took effect from January 1 banned all forms of political thuggery and associated crimes in Katsina.

He explained that the governor also banned the indiscriminate posting of political parties’ posters and banners in roundabouts, government buildings, offices and public places.

“Gathering and movement of political thugs known as Bacha, Kauraye under any other name or guise to intimidate, harass and maim the innocent populace are also totally banned,” Mr Sirika stressed. “Any person or group that contravenes the provisions will be charged for an offence punishable under section 114 of the penal code law.”
