Barber in court for slapping man

The police in Abuja have on Friday arraigned a barber, Emmanuel Isaac, before a Gwagwalada Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for alleged criminal conspiracy and assault.

Mr. Isaac who lives in Angwa Dodo, Gwagwalada, was docked on a four-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, force, assault and mischief.

The prosecuting counsel, Abudullahi Tanko, told the court that the complainant, Audu Steve of Chukuku, Kuje, Abuja reported the matter at Gwagwalada Police Station on February 23.

Mr. Tanko said that the defendant in the company of two others now at large, conspired and slapped the complainant. He said that they also threatened him with cutlass.

The prosecutor also said that the complaint lost his N6,000, while the defendant hit a motorcyclist, Abubarka Mohammed of Angwa Azara, of Gwagwalada and his passenger, while trying to escape.

He said that the motorcyclist sustained injuries on his face and leg, while the passenger’s Itel cell phone valued at N35,000, shoes and cloth were damaged.

The offences contravened the provisions of Sections 97, 263, 264 and 317 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Yusuf Ibrahim admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000, with one surety who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case until March. 30 for hearing.
