Bartender jailed seven months for stealing employer’s TV, alcoholic beverages

A Magistrates’ Court, Kubwa, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a bartender, Mohammed Oche, to seven months imprisonment for stealing a television and assorted alcoholic beverage from his employer.
Oche, who was convicted and sentenced for theft, begged the court for mercy.
The Magistrate, Nneaka Lesley, also ordered Oche to pay the complainant, Aloa Rita, compensation for the stolen items on or before September 30, 2025.
Lesley warned the convict to desist from committing crime and be of good behaviour.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, John Okpa, told the court that the complainant reported the matter at the Kubwa Police in Abuja on September 18.
Okpa said Oche was employed as a bartender at the complainant’s ‘‘Lick Finger” bar at Katampe, Kubwa but dishonestly stole from the bar.
The prosecution said Oche stole one LG television valued at N80,000, 24 bottles of Imperial blue costing N71,200, a gas cylinder valued at N25,000 and 30 bottles of X1 drinks at N81,600.
Others are six bottles of 1960 drink valued at N27,000 and one DJ sound system valued at N435,000 .
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 289 of the Penal Code.
