Some daredevil gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly shot Abdu Usman Aliyu, Bauchi State Auditor-General, on his way from his village. Two of his family members were also abducted.

The incident occurred in a village on Saturday evening near Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of the state.

A Twitter handler, @muawiyaausman, perceived to be a family member made the disclosure via his handle.

According to his tweet, Mr. Aliyu was shot by the gunmen shortly after whisking away with the driver of the vehicle.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun! My father Alh Abdu Usman Aliyu (Auditor General Bauchi ) has been shot this evening on his way back from the village by suspected kidnappers and my younger brother who’s the driver taken away. Please include us in your prayers.” the tweet stated.

The Police spokesperson in Bauchi, Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the incident to Peoples Gazette on Sunday night in a telephone interview.

“Yes the report is true. Yesterday we had an incident reported to the command around 8p.m. from Tafawa Balewa Division about the abduction of two persons by suspected kidnappers who also shot Bauchi state Auditor-General during the operation.

“A good Samaritan identified as Haruna informed the division about the incident that occurred in Kardam village, near Tafawa Balewa.”

“The police rushed to the scene where the crime was carried out. From our findings, there were six occupants in the vehicle that the suspected kidnappers hijacked while Mr. Aliyu was returning home.”

“The suspected kidnappers had an encounter with the auditor-general they shot him in an attempt to whisk him away.” Mr. Wakil said.

However, the police disclosed that the gunmen succeeded in whisking away with two persons.

“They kidnapped one Bilkisu Mohammed, 25, and a 50-year-old man. The auditor-general is presently at the state teaching hospital where he is receiving treatment.” he added.
