The Bauchi State government has trained senior civil servants to strengthen governance and service delivery.

The deputy governor, Auwal Jatau, said this at the inauguration of a five-day capacity-building training exercise on Monday in Bauchi.

Mr Jatau said the initiative underscored the administration’s commitment toward building a competent and result-oriented civil service capable of driving sustainable development.

He described the training as timely and strategic, noting that a similar programme had not been held in over two decades.

According to Mr Jatau, equipping top government officials with modern administrative skills is critical to improving efficiency, transparency and effective policy implementation.

“The civil service remains the backbone of governance; strengthening its capacity is essential to achieving meaningful development and delivering quality services to the people,” he said.

Mr Jatau said that Governor Bala Mohammed had initiated viable reform programmes, including investments in staff development, digitalisation of government processes and improvements in workers’ welfare.

He highlighted that prompt payment of salaries and implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage boosted morale and productivity within the service.

Sani Umar, the head of the Civil Service, said the exercise would address gaps in critical administrative competencies, particularly in memo writing, report preparations, speech drafting and record management.

He stressed that strengthening the foundational skills would significantly improve the quality of decision-making and overall governance outcomes in the state.

Mr Umar said the participants were expected to leverage the knowledge gained to enhance professionalism, efficiency and service delivery in line with the state government’s drive toward a more responsive and effective civil service.

He said the exercise was designed for permanent secretaries and directors of administration and human resource officers from ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).
