Bauchi reaffirms commitment to safe school policy

The Bauchi State government has reiterated its commitment to the full implementation of the Safe and Inclusive School Policy to ensure a safe and violence-free learning environment.
The Commissioner for Education, Lawan Mohammed, said this during a courtesy visit by members of the Civil Society Action Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA) on Tuesday in Bauchi.
The visit is part of activities designed to mark the 25th anniversary of the association.
He said the state government adopted proactive measures to enhance access to quality, safe and inclusive education.
Mr Mohammed said the domestication of the safe school policy would be extended to local government areas to support school-based task force training and monitor community feedback mechanisms.
The State Coordinator of CSACEFA, Nicholas Afeso, commended the education reform programmes initiated by the ministry.
He listed some of the programmes to include the training of candidates for JAMB CBT, revocation of underperforming boarding school feeding contractors, and local production of exercise books/chalks.
Executive director, FACE PAM, Debis Mwalike, urged the state government to implement a Gender in Education Policy, institutionalise a biannual School Performance Review Mechanism, and strengthen the State Education Accounts for transparency and accountability.
She also called for gender-responsive budgeting, equitable teacher deployment, and enhanced synergy with civil societies and community structures.
Highlights of the event featured the presentation of an award to Mr Mohammed for exemplary service and student-centred leadership.
