Bayelsa Education Fund supports nursing college with beds, mattresses, laptops
The Bayelsa Education Development Trust Fund, on Wednesday, donated 100 double-bunk beds, 200 mattresses and 10 laptops to the Bayelsa College of Nursing Sciences, Tombia-Ekpetiama.
Speaking at the event, the executive secretary of BEDTF, Ebimieowei Etebu, said the donation of the items aligned with the organisation’s mandate to support critical education infrastructure across the state.
He reiterated the fund’s commitment to enhancing learning environments across educational institutions in Bayelsa.
He added that providing the items would help create a more conducive environment for students, particularly those in professional fields like nursing, where adequate rest and comfort are essential for effective learning outcomes.
”This intervention from the state government is borne out of our belief that the quality of a learning environment directly impacts the quality of learning itself. This was the foresight of Benjamin Franklin when he noted that an investment in knowledge pays the best interest,” Mr Etebu said.
Similarly, Charles Daniel, chairman of the Bayelsa House of Assembly Committee on Education, while handing over the items to the school, commended the BEDTF for its interventions.
He said that the gesture would enhance teaching and learning in the school.
In the same vein, the chairman of the Bayelsa Traditional Rulers Council and Ibenanaowei of Ekpetiama Kingdom, Bubaraye Dakolo, represented by the Amananaowei of Gbarantoru, Igonia Dakolo, lauded the state government for the gesture.
He called on other organisations and well-to-do individuals domiciled in and from the state to emulate the gesture and invest more in the institution.
Also, the chairman of the BEDTF board, Fidelis Agbiki, urged the institution’s management to ensure proper management of the donated items.
He warned the institution’s leadership to refrain from converting the laptops for personal use, as the BEDTF had monitoring mechanisms to detect the abuse of provided items.
