Benue: Governor Alia signs 2025 appropriation bill of N550 billion into law
Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue has signed the 2025 appropriation bill of N550.1 billion into law.
Mr Alia signed the budget meant for human capital development, food security, and the digital economy on Monday night in Makurdi.
He described the event as a pivotal step to ensure a brighter, more prosperous future for Benue.
The Benue House of Assembly had earlier on Monday, December 30, passed the 2025 appropriation bill.
Mr Alia said the budget provided the framework for expanding access to quality education, improving healthcare services, and fostering lifelong learning.
”The signing into law of the 2025 budget, the formal launch of the 10-year development plan, and these critical policies mark the beginning of a new chapter in our state’s story.
“We are laying the groundwork for a future where every citizen has the opportunity to succeed, to live in dignity, and to contribute to the growth of our state.
“Our work is not finished today; it is just the beginning. Together, we will build a brighter, more resilient future for ourselves and for generations to come,” the governor said.
He said the signing of the budget coincided with launching the state’s 10-year development plan, the State Nutrition Policy and the State Social Protection Policy.
Mr Alia said the digital economy was the future, adding that he was committed to leading that charge.
“This budget allocates significant resources to the digital transformation of our economy while investing in digital infrastructure, internet access, and innovation hubs.
“It is to foster an environment where entrepreneurs and businesses can flourish, digital literacy enhanced, jobs created, and openings for new opportunities,” he stated.
The governor said the nutritional policy addresses the growing challenges of malnutrition, obesity, and diet-related diseases. He said the policy was committed to ensuring that Benue citizens, especially the children, access nutritious, affordable, and safe food.
The governor further disclosed that the launch of the social protection policy signified his administration’s commitment to creating a safety net for the most vulnerable people in Benue.
He described the policy as one designed to support those in need, offering financial assistance, healthcare, education, and job training opportunities.
The governor pointed out that it was a testament to his government’s resolve to protect every citizen, regardless of their circumstances. He appreciated the Benue House of Assembly for passing the appropriation bill into law and the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund for facilitating some of the critical policies.
He said the collective efforts would bring about positive change and lasting prosperity in the state.
