The police command in Benue on Tuesday arraigned Benjamin Tsenongo and Hembafan Tsenongo before the Makurdi Chief Magistrates’ Court 5 for alleged criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

The police prosecutor, Inspector James Ewaoche told the court that the case was transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Buruku, via a letter with reference No. AR:3100/BNS/BU/VOL.4/382, dated December 15, to SCID Makurdi.

Mr Ewaoche said on December 4, Lorsue Abiki, kindred head of Iwanev in Mbaakura ward, Mbagen District, Buruku LGA, Benue, reported the case at the Buruku Police Station.

He said the traditional ruler reported that the accused, Benjamin Tsenongo and Hembafan Tsenongo, all of Ugbema town, Buruku LGA, conspired and attacked Tsenongo Lorgirim, a 70-year-old man in his bedroom.

He said the accused, during the attack, inflicted deep cuts all over his (the victim’s) body with sticks, resulting in his death.

Mr Ewaoche said during the police investigation, the accused were arrested, and they confessed to the crime.

He said they also recovered the stick the accused used to inflict injuries on the deceased which led to his death.

The prosecutor said the accused contravened sections 97 and 222 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue State, 2004.

However, when the case came up for mention, no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction.

The magistrate, Erdoo Ter, remanded the accused at the Federal Maximum Correctional Centre, Makurdi, and adjourned the case to January 25, 2023, for further mention.
