Benue’s Governor Hyacinth Alia, on Monday in Makurdi, called on participants of Course 14 at the Advanced Defence Intelligence College, Abuja, to provide actionable intelligence reports that would safeguard the nation from insecurity.

Mr Alia made the call when the course participants, who were on a study tour of Benue, paid him a courtesy visit.

During the tour themed “Preventing inter-communal conflicts through actionable intelligence to enhance national security”, Mr Alia urged the course participants to engage in robust and valuable interactions that would lead to the return of peace to Nigerian communities.

He expressed regret that, over the years, inter-communal conflicts had led to the loss of many lives and the displacement of many Benue indigenes from their ancestral homes.

The governor called on the course participants to work with security agencies in Benue to evolve workable solutions to the causes of inter-communal conflicts in the state and in Nigeria in general.

Earlier, the leader of the group and Director of Studies at the college, Goke Osuntokun, said the course participants were in Benue to partially fulfill the requirements for graduating from the college.

Mr Osuntokun said the choice of Benue was important as it provided participants with the avenue to discuss issues germane to tackling cases of communal clashes in the state and in Nigeria as a whole.

He said a similar exercise was ongoing in Plateau and Taraba states, which also have histories of inter-communal conflicts.

Mr Osuntokun thanked Mr Alia and the people of Benue for the hospitality accorded the course participants since their arrival in the state.
