Borno electoral commission assures parties of credible LG poll

The Executive Chairman, Borno State Independent Electoral Commission, Lawan Maina, has assured parties and candidates of credible council poll on Saturday.
Six political parties, comprising the All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, New Nigeria People’s Party, Social Democratic Party, Labour Party and Allied People’s Movement are participating in the election.
Mr Maina, in an interview with journalists on Saturday in Maiduguri, said all was set for the election of 27 LG chairmen and 312 councillors.
“I have already assured them that, having taken the oath, we will be free and fair and by the grace of God, we will conduct a credible election,” Mr Maina said.
He, however, disclosed that elections in the communities of Guzamala and Abadam local government areas, who had yet to be resettled in their ancestral homes, would be conducted in camps located at Gajiram and Damasak towns.
He added, “We also have some communities from Marte and Kala-Balge LGAs, whose elections will be conducted in Mongonu and Ngala towns.”
Mr Maina said the Independent National Electoral Commission’s register and voter card would be used for the election.
