Premier League side Chelsea have announced the signing of Brazilian forward Joao Pedro in a £55 million move from Brighton.

“Chelsea is delighted to announce the signing of Brazil international Joao Pedro from Brighton and Hove Albion,” the West London club said in a statement on Wednesday.

The announcement came after the 23-year-old underwent medicals in the United States on Tuesday after Chelsea and Brighton agreed on a £55 million transfer fee plus another £55 million in add-ons.

Pedro signed an eight-year contract through to 2033 with the Blues and will immediately join the squad ahead of Chelsea’s quarterfinal match against Palmeiras at the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup on Saturday.

“The 23-year-old forward has penned a long-term deal with the Blues that runs through to 2033 and joins the squad immediately ahead of our FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final against Palmeiras,” the club added.

Reacting to the move, Pedro said, “Everyone knows this is a big club with a great history. They had brilliant players in the past and have brilliant players now. So, I am excited to join, and you know when you are a Chelsea player you must think one thing — win.”

Pedro is the latest player to join Chelsea from Brighton after Moises Caicedo, Levi Colwill, Marc Cucurella and Roberto Sanchez.
