Hardened inmates have attempted to break out of a key correctional facility in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The inmates were working with vandals to set free on Thursday afternoon. The vandals have been on rampage across the commercial capital.
Residents in the affluent neighbourhood have been scampering for safety after seeing a huge smoke billowing from the prison compound. The inmates also rioted and attempted to damage the facility.
Witnesses said that there were no escapees, and the custodial centre has now seen additional security measures.
Prisons have been broken into in Edo and Ondo since Monday, as thugs continued wreaking havoc on government offices around the country.
