Bricklayer arraigned for allegedly injuring colleague with bottle

The magistrate adjourned the case until November 10 for further hearing.

A 46-year-old bricklayer, Alaba Yisa, on Thursday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ondo State, for allegedly injuring his colleague with a broken bottle.

The defendant, whose address was not given, was facing a two-count charge bordering on felony and assault.

The police prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant and two others at large, on September 21 around 01.30 p.m at Ajegunle Lane in Okitipupa, Okitipupa magisterial district, conspired to commit felony..

Mr Orogbemi said the defendant and others at large assaulted one Johnson Akinyemi by using a broken bottle to inflict degrees of injuries on his head over an undisclosed argument.

The prosecutor said the defendant committed offences contrary to and punishable under Sections 517 and 355, Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Olarenwaju Adelegan, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 and a surety in like sum.

Mr Adelegan added that the surety, who must be resident within the court jurisdiction, must also show and present evidence of two years tax payment made to the state government.

He adjourned the case until November 10 for further hearing.
