Britney Spears checks into rehab weeks after DUI arrest

American singer Britney Spears has voluntarily checked into a rehabilitation facility in the United States, a month after her arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence in California.
According to TMZ, her loved ones had been urging her to seek help, and she eventually agreed to enter treatment voluntarily a few days ago.
The development comes after the singer was reported in March for allegedly driving her BMW at high speed on a California motorway.
She was later said to have shown signs of impairment and underwent tests before being taken into custody in Ventura County.
She is expected in court on May 4, where the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office will determine whether formal charges will be filed.
Following the arrest, a representative of the singer said she would “take the right steps and comply with the law.”
The statement added that her sons and other loved ones have been spending time with her to create a support plan focused on her wellbeing.
The 44-year-old singer has had previous public struggles with substance abuse and mental health issues.
In the days leading up to the rehabilitation news, the singer had been sharing a couple of unusual dance clips, while comments on her posts appeared to be turned off.
