President Muhammadu Buhari has described as “deeply distressing” the destruction in Imo of the buildings and assets of the police and the home of George Obiozor.

Mr Obiozor is the president-general of the Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo.

In a statement by his media aide Garba Shehu, on Sunday, the president, who condemned the violence in the South-East, urged Igbos to maintain peace.

According to Mr Buhari, the law and order situation in the region is being reviewed.

Mr Buhari called on Imo people and other Igbos to maintain peace, promising that the police and other security agencies are working to restore normalcy in the region “soon.”

He extended sympathies to the police authorities over the killing of police officers, and to Mr Obiozor whom he urged to maintain his commitment to the ”peace and oneness of the federation against these senseless terrorists.”
