President Muhammadu Buhari has joined family, friends and associates in mourning the death of former inspector general of police Mustapha Balogun.

Mr Balogun was 75. He died on Thursday.

In a condolence message by his media aide Femi Adesina on Friday in Abuja, the president also mourned with the Nigeria Police Force, an institution Mr Balogun spent the better part of his life serving.

Mr Buhari stated that the ex-police chief, during his tenure, did his best to ensure that the police performed its statutory responsibilities under a democratic dispensation.

He also mentioned that Mr Balogun’s penchant for boosting the morale of officers and men in the police was acknowledged by those who served under him.

According to the president, his thoughts and prayers are with the family, the government and people of Osun, as well as former colleagues of the deceased police chief.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed.

Also, Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun mourned the demise of the police chief. This is contained in a condolence message by the governor’s chief press secretary, Ismail Omipidan, on Friday in Osogbo.

Mr Oyetola commiserated with people of Ila-Orangun, where Mr Balogun hailed from and the police.
