Ayodele Fayose has taken to his social media page to lambast President Muhammadu Buhari, comparing him to outgoing U.S. President Donald Trump.

“As Americans look forward to the exit of Trump, Nigerians too cannot wait to see the exit of Buhari,” the former Ekiti governor said. “The two can’t be forgotten in a jiffy. Buhari will be remembered like Trump because it is obvious that he is the low budget Trump when damages done to their countries are compared.”

Mr. Buhari has come under criticism for his controversial record on rights abuses, as well as failure to properly administer Nigeria’s economy.

Mr. Fayose said the Nigerian leader’s policies mirror those of Mr. Trump and will not be sustained in a modern world. Mr. Trump has faced criticism in recent weeks for allegedly provoking an uprising that saw citizens take over the Capitol as lawmakers tried to confirm Joe Biden as the country’s next president.

Mr. Trump denied the allegations, challenging his critics to provide evidence that he incited the mob.

“Everything that matters has been destroyed under the watch of Buhari,” Mr. Fayose said. “All the values that we share as a country – economy, security, human rights, rule of law, credible elections and unity of the country have been destroyed.”

Mr. Fayose, a longstanding critic of Mr. Buhari, has been regularly ignored by the president, who said he would not engage with a corrupt politician who feeds off public controversies. Mr. Fayose is standing trial for a slew of corruption allegations he has consistently denied.
