Femi Adesina, President Muhammadu Buhari’s media aide, has justified the president’s travel despite grave security breaches on Tuesday.

Daredevil bandits attacked the president’s advance convoy in his Katsina home state Tuesday, later in the day, Boko Haram terrorists bombed a medium federal prison in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

But fielding questions from State House correspondents after the federal executive council meeting on Wednesday, Mr Adesina said the president was in order to embark on his trip.

“Yes, the president should go because there’s an international conference meant for heads of states and presidents. He should attend. You should never give in to terrorists,” Mr Adesina said.

“The moment terrorists begin to stop you from doing things, then we might as well throw up our hands in surrender. The president should go ahead. It is an international obligation,” he added.

The attack on the president’s convoy, carrying the Advance Team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of the President, Mr Buhari’s trip to Daura for Sallah, left a top police officer dead.

Meanwhile, close to one thousand inmates, including hardened Boko Haram members, are on the run following the bombing of the Kuje prisons.

Defence minister Bashir Magashi said the 64 Boko Haram members who escaped from the Kuje custodial centre after Tuesday night attack are yet to be found.
