Former vice president and presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar, has promised a different leadership from president Muhammadu Buhari, whose bigotry has fanned the flames of insecurity in the nation.

Courting delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Mr Abubakar accused Mr Buhari of operating a one-sided government and marginalising other ethnic and religious groups.

“Can you govern without uniting people and bringing peace? It is very important. The APC government has been a one-sided government and therefore, there is disunity, because of disunity now we are facing insecurity all over the country,” Mr Abubakar told the delegates.

The presidential hopeful vowed to unify all ethnic and religious groups if he wins the 2023 presidential polls.

“I will give a sense of belonging to every ethnic group. I give a sense of belonging to every religious group. After unifying the country, then we tackle the insecurity,” the aspiring president said.

Many citizens have begun to doubt the genuineness of Mr Abubakar’s campaign promise since he deleted a tweet that condemned the gruesome murder of Deborah Samuel, a Christian female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto by Islamic extremists.

The deletion has swayed southern Christians who once viewed Mr Abubakar as a moderate Muslim into believing his performance may be worse than Mr Buhari if elected.
