A 22-year-old businessman, Shadrach Adingedi, was arraigned before the Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for stealing 20 pigs worth N1.4 million.

The police charged Adingedi of Tudunwada in Lugbe, Abuja, with theft.

The prosecution counsel, Steven Osho, told the court that on January 5, the complainant, Chijeoke Ndubuisi of the address, reported the matter at Lugbe Police Station.

Mr Osho said from October 2023 to date, the defendant made away with the complainant’s twenty pigs valued at N1.4 million.

He told the court that the defendant pretended to be the owner of the stolen pigs, but during the police investigation, he could not give a satisfactory account of himself.

Mr Osho said the offence contravened sections 287 and 327 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The judge, Aliyu Kagarko, granted the defendant bail of N2 million, with one surety in like sum.

Mr Kagarko ordered that the surety be a level 10 civil servant and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He said the surety must produce reliable means of identification and adjourned the matter until January 31 for a hearing.
