Campaign against drug abuse best Valentine gift for Imo youths: Official

The Imo State Government said its campaign against drug abuse and trafficking is “the best Valentine’s gift” for the state’s youths.
Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma, Ezechukwu Obonna, stated this during his visit to Holy Trinity Secondary School Omuma and Omuma Secondary Technical School on Saturday.
The visit was part of a broader campaign targeting drug abuse and trafficking among the youth in the state.
Mr Obonna thanked the students for attending the event despite the short notice and stressed the importance of listening to older, more experienced individuals.
He warned the students about the dangers of experimenting with drugs, particularly depressants such as lexotan.
Mr Obonna explained that experimenting with such a drug could lead to severe depression and anxiety in the future.
He said, “Lexotan is a depressant used to treat insomnia. Its active ingredient, bromazepam, calms nerve activity in the brain by enhancing GABA neurotransmitter effects.’’
He cautioned that abusing the drug could lead to serious long-term consequences, including sleeping disorders.
The highlight of the visit was a pledge by the student representatives from both schools to avoid drugs and support the fight against drug abuse.
