CAN organises special prayers for peaceful elections

The Lagos chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria says its yearly Inter-denominational Divine Service (IDDS) billed to take place on Saturday, at the LAWNA Headquarters, Ketu, will focus on prayer for a successful elections slated for February 25 and March 11
The Lagos CAN chairman, Stephen Adegbite, in an interview on Tuesday, said the prayer session became imperative because of anxieties attached to the transition period.
Mr Adegbite, a bishop, said prayers could change things for good.
Mr Adegbite, who described election devoid of violence as a forerunner to national development, stressed that Nigerians should contribute their quota to ensure a peaceful transition.
He said the session would attract clerics interceding for the nation alongside parishes and seek atonement for the nation.
“The event is for Christians of every denomination and Muslims too because the important thing is the goal behind the prayer. Since its inception 20 years ago, it has been attended by state governors,” the CAN leader stated. “We are expecting Governor Sanwo-Olu to be there, just as we are inviting everyone to attend. It is a session where as a people we present our supplication to God for His prompt intervention. In this regard, the nation’s general election takes pre-eminence.”
The CAN chair added, “For Lagos to have continued to have peace over the years can be attributed to the IDDS prayers and we are extending the prayer to the nation for the common good.”
