Canada storm leaves three dead, three injured
Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds in Ottawa have seen the death of three people and widespread destruction.
On Saturday, Ottawa Citizen reported that the story came from the west, noting ongoing clean up efforts as power lines and trees fell during the storm.
Two people have been reported as critically injured and another in a storm-related motor vehicle accident, according to Pierre Poirier, chief of the Ottawa Paramedic Service.
At the time of filing this report, three people have been confirmed dead by local police.
The Ontario Provincial Police said a fallen tree in the Renfrew-Greater Madawaska area led to the death of a 44-year-old man. The man was taken to hospital by paramedics, where he was pronounced dead.
An Ottawa Police spokesperson also reported the death of one person, though details were not provided in the report and The Gatineau police also reported another person has been reported as dead after a boat capsized during the storm on the Ottawa River.
The storm has affected power supply, phone lines and transport routes
Hydro Ottawa’s outage report revealed 580 outages affecting 176,678 customers. Some power lines near the Ottawa Airport and parts of the Airport Parkway went down in the storm and remained closed off on Sunday morning.
