Car dealer in court over alleged N10 million car purchase fraud

A 32-year-old car dealer, Nicholas Olabomi, on Friday appeared before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, over an alleged N10 million car purchase fraud.
The defendant, of undisclosed address, was charged with two counts bordering on fraud and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
According to the prosecutor, Cpl. Akeem Akinloye, the defendant committed the offences in July 2024 in the Oke-Ado area of Ibadan.
He alleged that Olabomi fraudulently obtained the sum of N10 million from one Awotunde Awolola, under the pretext of procuring a Toyota Venza for him, but failed to do so.
Mr Akinloye alleged that the defendant converted the money to his own personal use.
He said the offences contravened Sections 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Chief Magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N3.5 million with two sureties in like sum.
Ms Ogunkanmi said one of the sureties must be a landed property owner, while the other must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
She, thereafter, adjourned the case until November 26 for hearing.
