Carpenter hacks grandmother to death in Ondo

A 27-year-old carpenter, Toheeb Ahmed, has alleged killed his grandmother in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at Aiyegbami Street in Ore town according to residents.
Mr Ahmed was accused of parading the victim’s residence since last week in an unsual manner before he allegedly attacked her.
One of the residents who did not give his name said, “He (Ahmed) had been coming to the house since last week. But, this morning (Tuesday), he came to my shop to buy something and said, ‘Mama is dead’ I felt sorry at first, but when he told me not to inform anyone, I became suspicious.
“Out of curiosity, I went to nama’s room while he was away and discovered she was hacked to death. When he returned, I noticed he was carrying a cutlass and was accompanied by a friend, probably to move the corpse. That was when I raised the alarm.”
She stated that the old woman lived quietly, describing the incident as heartbreaking.
According to her, the suspect has been handed over to the police and the corpse evacuated to the morgue.
The state police spokesman, Olayinka Ayanlade, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said the suspect was currently in custody and would face prosecution upon completion of investigation.
