CDS’ wife inaugurates 38-bed maternity centre in Kaduna

The President, Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Oghogho Musa, has inaugurated a 38-bed maternity centre at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Hospital, Afaka, Kaduna State.
This is contained in a statement by the Director, Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, on Friday in Abuja.
Mr Gusau said the project was constructed and equipped by the NDA 38 Regular Course Alumni Association to boost healthcare services within the academy and surrounding communities.
According to him, the centre was conceptualised and executed to provide childbirth, antenatal, postnatal and family planning services.
The DEPOWA president, who also performed the groundbreaking of the facility in January, described the initiative as a major contribution to the welfare of officers, their families and residents of the host community.
The Chairman of the project committee, retired Rear Adm. Murtala Bashir, said the centre was equipped with consulting rooms, an operating theatre and other modern facilities.
Mr Bashir urged members’ spouses, known as the “Unique 38 Ladies,” to continue to support the project.
The facility was formally handed over to the NDA Commandant, Maj.-Gen. Abdul Ibrahim, by the President of the 38 Regular Course Association, Maj.-Gen. Solomon Udounwa (retd).
The event was attended by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Sen. Ibrahim Hadeja, who represented the Vice-President, representatives of the Service Chiefs, members of DEPOWA, as well as serving and retired senior military officers.
