Civil servants resume work in Enugu after Easter holidays

Workers have resumed duty in Enugu State after the two days holidays to mark the Easter festivities.
A tour of the federal secretariat in Enugu showed that some offices were open with few staff seen in their respective departments.
A civil servant, Chimezie Nweke, who works with the Federal Ministry of Health, said that he used the holidays to rest and attend to some personal issues.
“After the Easter holidays and rest, I am here to continue with official duties,” Mr Nweke said.
Another civil servant, Chinelo Ugwu, who works with the Federal Fire Service, said though she was on standby duty during the holidays, it was gratifying to see the Federal Secretariat come alive again.
A service provider, Kehinde Olushola, who provides car wash services at the federal secretariat, said that businesses had picked up as the place was dull during the holidays.
At the Enugu State Secretariat by 10:30a.m., some commissioners and even the Enugu State Head of Service, Dr Godwin Anigbo, had resumed duty and started official engagements.
One of the civil servants, Chika Chime, said that the Easter break was good as she reconnected with close family members and friends.
“For now, we are back to work and we thank God for health and sound mind,” she said.
Ms Chime requested the state government and head of service to look into providing civil servants with free transportation to ameliorate the current cost of transport to and fro the state secretariat.
In his remarks, the state Head of Service, Mr Anigbo urged civil servants to be focused, resilient and passionate about their duties.
He expressed delight with the turnout of workers at their duty posts urging them to give in their best in the development of the state.
On the issue of transport cost, Mr Anigbo said that the CNG buses rolled out by the state government remained far cheaper in fare charge compared to the usual commercial buses.
He stated, “The state government is rolling out additional 100 CNG buses and taxi cabs very soon. The state government has concluded plans to ensure workers welfare remain paramount with the initial N80,000 minimum wage being paid monthly. Workers interest will be duly captured as the state government rolls out more CNG buses in due time.”
