The Bishop of Abuja Diocese and Primate of All Nigeria Anglican Communion, Henry Ndukuba, has cautioned Christians against borrowing to celebrate Christmas.

He reminded Christians that after the celebrations there would be school fees to pay, rent to renew, food to buy and other necessities.

“We have to bear in mind that responsibilities are waiting for us in 2022 – fees, house rent and other bills,” the primate cautioned.

The cleric, therefore, advised Christians to emulate the life of Jesus Christ, who was very content, moderate and disciplined.

According to him, Christmas is about godliness, as such people should strive to be righteous, rather than engage in extravagant lifestyles that could lead them to debt.

“Godliness and contentment is a virtue. The festive period is not a time to cut corners, steal and kill.

“I want to encourage Nigerians to live within their means. We don’t need to plunder to celebrate God’s life and mercy on us.

“The Kingdom of God is not of eating and drinking, neither is the celebration for that. We are to be in a sober and self-reflection as we prepare ourselves to receive Christ and usher in the new year,” Mr Ndukuba said.

He encouraged people to share what they have and show love to those who have little, as well as emulate Jesus Christ’s virtue of humbleness, discipline, love and contentment.
