The Chief Medical Director of Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Kaduna, Prof. Abdukadir Tabari, has urged the state government to hand over the hospital to the Federal Government to pave the way for professional and efficient service delivery.

Mr Tabari made the plea in an interview with journalists on Monday in Kaduna.

He said when this was done it would solve the issue of remuneration as the state would not have to bother about salary structures and the existing disparity between federal and state health workers.

“Also, in infrastructure, any legacy that is coming from the Federal Government to the Federal Teaching Hospital would automatically come in handy and that will pave the way for the establishment of another teaching hospital. One may say we already have the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital but it does not matter after all; some states have more than two. For instance, Katsina has two federal tertiary health institutions, including FMC Daura and the Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina.

“Jigawa State too has two federal teaching hospitals: FMC Birnin Kudu and, recently, a federal teaching hospital. Adamawa State has more than two: Madibo Adamawa University Teaching Hospital, FMC Hong and FMC Mubi,” he said.

The CMD commended Governor Uba Sani for the attention accorded to the health sector, adding, “We are lucky that recently, the state governor approved and has commenced, unfailingly, the payment of overhead costs to agencies and establishments like ours on a regular basis.”

Mr Tabari said for efficient service delivery, the governor should consider an upward review of salaries for staff, upgrade physical infrastructure and provide equipment at the hospital.

“The hospital has in the past seven years introduced about 40 new or upgraded services in the hospital and as a trained health worker, you will like to have all the facilities to work with. On our side too, we are doing our best to provide a conducive working environment to ensure the provision of electricity and water and to ensure the environment is always neat,” he said.
