Cold nights, sunny, dusty atmosphere expected across Nigeria, NiMet warns

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency says sunshine and haziness were expected from Friday to Sunday across the country. The agency also warned that night-time temperatures could be low.
NiMet’s weather outlook released on Thursday in Abuja predicted sunny and hazy atmosphere over the northern region during the forecast period.
According to the agency, sunny and hazy atmosphere is expected over the North central region during the forecast
period.
“Patches of cloud in a hazy atmosphere are expected over the inland cities of the South throughout the forecast period.
“Cloudy atmosphere with spells of sunshine are expected over coastal cities of the South with chances of a few thunderstorms over parts of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River and Lagos state during afternoon and evening hours,” it said.
NiMet anticipated a sunny and hazy atmosphere over the northern region on Saturday during the forecast period.
It envisaged a sunny and hazy atmosphere over the North-Central cities throughout the forecast period.
“Sunny skies with pockets of clouds are expected over the inland cities of the South while cloudy atmospheres with spells of sunshine are anticipated over the coastal cities of the South.
“There are prospects of a few thunderstorms over parts of Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Lagos and Bayelsa in the afternoon and evening hours,” it said.
NiMet predicted sunny and hazy conditions over the northern and North-Central region during the forecast period on Sunday.
According to the agency, sunny skies with spells of sunshine are expected over the inland cities of the South.
It forecast a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine over coastal states of South with chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Cross River later in the day.
“The public are advised to take necessary precautions due to dust particles presently in suspension over the atmosphere.
“Individuals with respiratory ailments are to protect themselves as the current dusty weather condition is adverse to their health.
“Night-time cold temperatures should be expected, hence, warm clothing is advised for the little ones,” it said.
NiMet urged all airline operators to obtain weather reports periodically from its office for effective planning in their operation.
