Commissioner mobilises LG chairpersons, community leaders for measles, rubella immunisation

Ibrahim Dadi-Adare, the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, has urged local government chairpersons to mobilise communities for the ongoing measles-rubella vaccination campaign.
Mr Dadi-Adare underscored the importance of their involvement as leaders, role models, and guides to expedite the resolution of disagreements, resistance, and challenges faced by immunisation workers.
The commissioner made the call during an interactive session with LG chairpersons in Sokoto, restating the need to mobilize community leaders for the exercise aimed at protecting children from deadly but preventable diseases.
He explained that the exercise is critical for safeguarding the health and future of children across the state’s 23 local government areas.
“This campaign is about protecting our children. The simplest and surest way to keep them safe from diseases like measles and rubella is through vaccination. I urge our council chairmen and all partners in this exercise to give it the seriousness it deserves. Every child must be vaccinated to remain safe and protected,” he added.
He explained that the campaign was part of a broader national initiative to improve vaccination coverage and promote community ownership of public health programmes.
Mr Dadi-Adare reassured that the government is prepared to address any challenges during the campaign, noting that the ministry is collaborating closely with the health ministry to ensure smooth implementation.
He added that the government was deploying appropriate strategies to reach remote communities and working closely with stakeholders to overcome challenges.
The Sokoto government has intensified its outreach efforts by conducting awareness campaigns in churches, mosques, schools, markets, and other public spaces to ensure maximum coverage.
The integrated campaign targets thousands of children across Sokoto State, covering measles, rubella, and other child-killer diseases, as part of a renewed effort to improve child health and curb preventable deaths.
